"The Rainbow Six brand has redefined the tactical first-person shooter genre. Bringing such a complex and refined experience to mobile was no easy feat. From day one, the Rainbow Six Mobile team focused on two pillars: it has to feel tactical and deep, while making the game feel approachable to someone new on mobile."

My Role

In 2021, I joined the Rainbow Six Mobile team as a UI/UX Designer. I worked directly with our local development teams in Winnipeg, as well remotely with our members in Montreal and other co-development studios.

I became the main UI/UX owner of multiple features, including gameplay, layout customization, user settings, onboarding, pre-match and game modes.

My objectives were the following:

  • Design and improve in-game UI to AAA mobile game standards

  • Define user-centric feature interactions for an intuitive player experience

  • Prioritize accessibility for all players, including visual, auditory and mobility based interactions

  • Optimize UI integration in Unity for improved device performance

Feature Highlight — Site & Spawn Selection

The site & spawn selection screen was a highly anticipated feature, often requested by our seasoned R6 Siege players. In April 2026, the feature was finally released. As the UI/UX Designer for this feature, I needed to incorporate it into our existing pre-match flow, meeting both new and existing artistic and technical requirements.

To bring the feature to life, I worked on the following:

  • Worked directly with the Game Design lead to define and pitch the updated pre-match user flow

  • Designed and integrated new UI elements

  • Improved and standardized existing pre-match UI for visual coherency, supporting both current and upcoming releases

  • Gathered player feedback through internal play-tests on all iterations

  • Captured accurate in-game renders of site & spawn points for all maps

Accessiblity

Making a game accessible to all players is a must. There are a number of standard practices to be followed, such as keeping above a minimum font size, or ensuring features rely on more than just color to differentiate their states. But on top of those requirements, I worked to refine the following accessibility features:

Layout Customization Screen: Players can customize their in-game UI precisely how they’d like it. Placement, size and opacity can be adjusted for all elements, as well as advanced options for further customization.

Gamepad Compatibility: Gamepad support is fully incorporated into the game, allowing for easier game mobility and interaction.

Audio Compass: Game audio can be a deciding factor on match success. Therefore, we created the audio compass for non-audio players, allowing them full visibility on their auditory surroundings in-game via visual cues.

Though I consider these features a huge win, improving a games’ accessibility is never over. There will always be more to improve and offer to players, as all deserve to play.
